Turning a balcony into a living room is a great opportunity to increase the size of the apartment, increase comfort and reduce heating costs. The work is simple, follow our instructions, and the whole process does not take much time. Before you begin, you need to decide on the materials of insulation and decoration. There are plenty to choose from: mineral wool, glass wool, polystyrene, gypsum fiber, plastic panels, euro-lining, plywood, etc. In this article, we will look at a simple way to finish using styrofoam and drywall - inexpensive and easy-to-use materials.
PSB-S polystyrene sheet (polystyrene) is different in grades 15, 25, 35, 50 according to GOST 15588-86, where 15 - 50 mm sheet thickness and sheet size: 1 000 x 2 000 mm.
Styrofoam grade | Price, rub / m3 |
PSB-S 15 | 1500 |
PSB-S 25 TU | 2200 |
PSB-S 35 TU | 3150 |
Preparation for work
It is necessary to prepare the surface of the floor, walls and ceiling. We clean the surface of debris and dirt, old paint and whitewash. Cracks and joints are filled with mounting foam, old heaters are removed. It is possible to apply a primer. Then each element of the balcony is insulated individually.
Balcony insulation
- The surface is leveled with cement.
- We apply special glue.
- Tightly stack the foam styrene plates to each other. As shown in the video, the plates are laid in two layers, at an angle.
- The joints of the plates are glued with foil tape.
- Glue foil penofol.
Note. Our master saves and fastens the insulation with glue and a spatula. It will be more convenient for you to use self-adhesive penofol, it is not much more expensive. The edge of the insulation adjacent to the window frame remains free, after installing the metal profile it can be cut off.
Drywall
- We take measurements of the walls, ceiling and floor.
- Cut the profile to size.
- We fasten the profile to the concrete wall, as shown in the video.
- We install additional thermal insulation (mineral wool).
- Glue the vapor barrier using tape.
- We install drywall or plastic panels (we attach them to the profile).
On this, the balcony insulation can be considered completed, only decorative decoration remains: primer, painting, wallpapering, installing a laminate, etc.
Summarize
For work, we will need: metal or wooden profiles, cement, foam polystyrene plates, foamed foamed foam, sound insulation, vapor barrier film, building glue, two types of adhesive tape (double-sided and foil), tools. An interesting fact: on the human body there are about 250 thousand receptors responsible for the feeling of cold, therefore it is better to work on the balcony in summer or early autumn.
