One of the typical breakdowns of the grinder is the failure of the gearbox - sometimes it simply falls apart. If the power tool is "with experience" (that is, it has been used for a long time), then it is not always advisable to restore it.
What to do in this case? Alternatively, if the engine is working, then angle grinder can be used as an electric drive for other machines. Cheap and cheerful, as they say. And you don’t have to redo the design much.
How to convert a grinder into an electric drive
First of all, we disassemble the metal case of the angle grinder, immediately “cut off” the unnecessary parts, after which we refine the part itself on a lathe - we cut off all the bulges, trying to make the surface as flat as possible. Then install the “updated” part of the case back, fixing it with screws.
Next, a pulley (friction wheel with a groove) on suitable lathes that will then be mounted on the motor shaft and tightly tightened with a nut will need to be machined from a round aluminum blank. That's the way you can give an old grinder with a collapsed gearbox a second life.
There are a lot of options for using such an electric drive from angle grinders: home-made machines for the home workshop, various household generators, powerful fans, as well as other units and devices. See the video on our website for a detailed process of making a drive from a grinder.
