When performing some work in the workshop or at the cottage, large clamps are sometimes required to fix wooden and metal blanks. You can make it yourself from a rectangular profile pipe with side dimensions of 60x20 mm, as well as a steel strip or scraps of sheet metal.
Using this home-made clamp, you can clamp large wooden blocks (for example, when gluing door or window blocks), as well as fix other workpieces and parts for the purpose of subsequent mechanical processing.
The main stages of work
We cut a piece of the profile pipe at an angle of 45 degrees, after which we weld a small piece of rectangular metal to its end part. Then, it will be necessary to weld another steel plate with rounded edges to the profile.
Please note that for welding thin-walled products, which include profile pipes, it is better to use electrodes with a diameter of up to 2.5 mm, and set the current on the inverter within 60-70 Amps.
A U-shaped part is welded from three steel plates of different sizes, which is worn on the opposite edge of the profile pipe. Then, from a section of the profile 50-60 cm long, you need to make a guide for the clamp.
Assembly assembly
We weld together the U-shaped part and a piece of the profile pipe with the clamping sponge, and then put it on the guide. Lastly, the upper part of the clamp is made with a threaded sleeve, a screw and a clamping nickle. A detailed assembly process can be seen in the video on the site.
