Even from unnecessary scraps of a metal strip (or plate), you can make a small hatchet for your home or summer house with your own hands. The design is the simplest, and it will take a little time to make it.

With the help of such a homemade hatchet, of course, you can’t really chop wood. However, for work in the country it is quite suitable: chopping off branches, making pegs, etc.

The first step is to cut off three blanks of different lengths from the strip. Of these, the master will also make a small homemade hatchet for giving. Surely, such trim strips are in every workshop.

The main stages of work

In the next step, it will be necessary to connect all three workpieces by welding. First you need to clean the strips (especially if there is rust on the surface). The result should be a L-shaped part.

After that, using a grinder with a cutting wheel, it is necessary to give the workpiece the desired shape. There are two options: you can improvise on the go or use a ready-made template that can be downloaded from the Internet.

Then it remains only to do the hardening, finishing and sharpening of the ax blade. In the lower part of the handle, the master decided to drill a hole so that the hatchet could be hung on a wall or, for example, on a belt.

To make it easy to hold the ax in your hand, you can wrap part of the handle with a rope. For details on how to make a small hatchet from scraps of a strip of metal with your own hands, see the video on the site.
