In this review, the author shows the process of making a homemade hydraulic vise using a car jack.
The first step is to cut off a piece of the channel and two metal strips.
Strips must be welded on both sides of the channel. Then it will be necessary to clean the welds with a grinder or, for example, with a manual grinder (electric file).

The main stages of work
At the next stage, in the center of the channel you need to make a groove. Then the author welds the fixed clamping jaw and strengthens it with the help of two metal plates (stiffeners).
Next, you will need to weld two more plates to the fixed sponge (for reinforcement).
The master welds another plate directly to the stiffeners. Additionally, the author welds a moving platform from pieces of metal.
To this moving platform, which moves along the channel, the master welds the second clamping jaw. And it will also need to be strengthened with scarves.
The author welds the channel to the base - a metal plate with mounting holes. The mobile platform is connected to the walls of the channel using 2 gas lifts.
At the last stage, it remains only to make a metal stop for the car jack, after which you can proceed to grinding and painting parts and subsequent assembly.
