The best harvesting time is determined by the number of blossoming flowers. In the budding stage, less than half of them should remain. When harvesting, high-quality inflorescences are cut with scissors or cut off along with bracts.
If the raw materials are not collected in an ecologically clean place - in a meadow or in a forest belt away from the carriageway, it is advisable to rinse the linden under running water. A light shower will wash off the asphalt dust and will not bring any harm to the subsequent processing.
The collected linden is laid out on paper and dried in a ventilated room at room temperature. When using a dryer set the temperature to about 40 degrees.
Paper bags, glass jars or rag bags are great for storing linden. Raw materials are stored in a darkened, dry place for no more than 3 years. Over time, the beneficial properties of linden flowers disappear, so it makes no sense to procure it for the future.
Beneficial features
Folk herbalists have long been used to using linden to treat colds, flu and bronchitis. When coughing, fever, headaches, sore throat, drink hot tea at night.
With a warm decoction with soda (5 g of soda per glass), gargle the sore throat well. The same composition facilitates the patient's condition with stomatitis, tonsillitis or laryngitis.
It is believed that tea based on flowers is an excellent antipyretic (due to profuse sweating) and decongestant (diuretic). A fresh sticky decoction with the addition of sage reduces the cuts in cystitis.
Daily washing of oily skin with linden tincture leads to a reduction in acne and inflammation of the skin. The same effect will be from rubbing youthful acne with a cotton swab dipped in linden broth.
Most often, this aromatic tea is drunk to normalize and balance the nervous system, relieve stress, in attempts to get rid of insomnia. It seems that even the air itself, saturated with the smells of small inflorescences, has a calming effect.
Herbalists generally recommend drying the raw materials in the bedroom, enjoying the effect of aromatherapy.
Ways of brewing linden
The easiest option is to pour a tablespoon of dried flowers with boiling water, cover and let it brew for 1/2 to 2 hours. The longer linden is brewed, the stronger the color of the tea will change. Initially, it may be yellow or slightly pink, and over time it will darken significantly.
Fresh linden in its pure form when brewing will not give almost any color. Tea will remain the same white, but very fragrant.
To make the broth look at least a bit like traditional tea, you need to dip a tea bag into it or add chicory. The result is a beautiful, fragrant and healthy linden tea.
By the way, in practice, this medicinal plant in its pure form is rarely brewed. The linden + combinations are much more common:
- mint
- melissa
- thyme
- other medicinal herbs.
Warning
Official medicine warns that, despite its many beneficial properties, linden can cause allergic reactions, so you need to use it wisely!
